Since 2005, the Cayman nameplate has appeared on the fixed-head variant of Porsche’s popular entry-level sports car, the Boxster. Porsche wanted a model to slot in below their iconic 911, and the Boxster was born in 1996 to fulfil that need. It’s been one of their best-selling models since then. The fourth generation, or Type 982 would see the naming convention slightly changed to incorporate the 718 name, which is from Porsche’s historical annals, as their racing car which won the Targa Florio in 1959 and 1960. Exterior and Interior
The design of the fourth-generation Boxster and Cayman is the work of Peter Varga, who retained the model’s iconic silhouette while incorporating the latest styling cues. Engine
The 718 series is typically seen with Porsche’s new turbocharged four-cylinder units, but this 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Coupe rocks something more soulful than forced induction. It’s a 4.0L flat-six that’s naturally aspirated, and produces 414hp at 7,600rpm, as well as 420lb-ft between 5,000 and 6,800rpm. You get to wring that engine out through a six-speed manual transmission for added driving pleasure, and power is all sent to the rear wheels. Zero to sixty is a sub 4.5 second affair, and the car doesn’t run out of puff until a claimed 189mph.
